ONIRISM AND COMEDY IN WES CRAVEN’S HORROR FILMS

Wes Craven is one of the most prominent but also controversial American directors. Films like “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Scream” did not only enter the hall of fame of horror, but they became classics of cinema in general. I’d argue that the best words to describe Craven’s masterpieces are “onirism” and “comedy”. In his films the dreamlike poetic quality and laughter are corresponding perfectly to the extreme horror. During the lecture we will try to take a closer look at the most important films of this director, from the shocking “The Last House on the Left” to the fourth part of “Scream”.

A member of Programme Committee at the Szczecin European Film Festival (SEFF) and the curator of the “Chillout Horror” and “The Best Films in the World” blocks. Since 2017 the editor-in-chief of the literary-cultural periodical “eleWator”.
