1987. 12-year-old Ralph has just got a video camera from his parents. Filled with youthful enthusiasm, he grabs the device. Ralph and his friend attempt at recording every big moment of their lives – the boys play with fireworks, reflect on adulthood, or simply fool around. But that’s not all. The modern camera has an extraordinary feature. It can record TV shows directly on a cassette tape! Could you even imagine anything better? The problem is… the instruction manual was not quite clear. Are you expecting to witness the birth of a genius director? Family dramas? Or maybe adolescent problems, accidentally recorded on tape? Forget it! To all the trolls, witches, and Amazonian tribes – get lost! This is the weirdest found footage you will ever see!
“VHYes” is an uncoordinated, chaotic, and often surprising stream of (un)consciousness! It is a crazy mixture made up of teen antics, a wedding tape, and evening TV shows – all these in random proportions. You will witness a harrowing document about a gruesome crime, teleshopping, tutorials on how to paint and sleep well, and a startling movie about global warming (or was it just cheesy porn?). All this spiced up with a huge amount of absurdity, abstract humor, love for VHS tapes, and consecutive winks of the eye to the viewers brought up by VCRs.
The person responsible for this cinematic experiment is Jack Henry Robbins – the son of Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption) and Susan Sarandon (Thelma & Louise), both of whom we will see on the screen.
