After the screening of the movie there will be a meeting with the legendary Lloyd Kaufman, director, producer and the co-founder of TROMA – iconic film studio that produces horror B movies. This is his first visit in Poland.
Even before Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider on the big screen, Captain America got his shot of the super-soldier serum and Shrek showed us that being ugly is not a barrier to get love, there was he, the avenger with a hideous face. Malvin Ferd, common, stereotypical weakling, working as a janitor at a fitness club who had enough of being a pushover! One day, after being bullied by stronger members of the club, he is thrown out of the window right into the toxic waste. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – Malvin turns into a giant, yet disgusting strongman and with use of his mop he stands face to face with his tormentors.
In this story full of brutality and eroticism, you can perceive everything that you need to know about TROMA, the legendary Lloyd Kaufman’s film studio. „The Toxic Avenger” is his masterpiece, it has many sequels and even a musical version. Rumour has it the movie was made just because during the shoot of „Rocky” Kaufman dreamt of making a horror that would take place in a gym. Today, „The Toxic Avenger” is a brand on its own, it has a whole franchise consisting of sequels, previously mentioned musical, animation „Toxic Crusaders” in type of „Captain Planet” (mutants fighting with aliens who pollute Earth) and Marvel comic series. This movie went almost unnoticed at the time of premiere. Today, it’s one of the favourite works shown at midnight movies. It is worth to notice, that the Oscar Award Winner Marisa Tomei was one of the extras playing a gym member in Tromaville. [Jakub Koisz]
