Love in high gear

In childhood, Alexia was in a car accident that left her with a titanium plate in her head. The scar visible on her temple is not the only remnant of the procedure – irreversible changes occur in the girl’s psyche that will cast a shadow on her adult life. It is, indeed, difficult to expect normality from a girl who leaves the hospital and hugs the car instead of her father and mother. Her parents already presume that their daughter’s future will be far from average. However, they can’t even begin to imagine the extent of her extravagance! Alexia is all grown up now: she’s a dancer in a car club, and in her free time, she kills anyone who crosses her path without batting an eye. When her murder gauge reaches a number that arouses the anxiety of the public and the interest of the police, Alexia must go into hiding. Following a crazy idea, which could only arise in a tarnished mind hidden under a titanium plate, she decides to impersonate a boy who has disappeared years ago. In this new role, she returns to his father – a broken fire brigade captain. The plan becomes even harder to follow when she realizes that her body is undergoing disturbing changes. After a wild ride in a tuned Cadillac, Alexia became pregnant with… a car – a turn of events that would soften even Christine’s timing belt.

Julia Ducournau – the French director and screenwriter known for her unrestrained film “Raw” – returns with another shocking title that cannot be overlooked. “Titane” is a high-octane cinematic ride that puts the creative pedal to the metal through a series of sudden turns and twists. Docournau’s work is an unusual journey through the genres, from the realms of body horror, transhumanism, and cyberpunk, through a scenic route among ruthless murders, to finally slow down in the middle of a psychological drama about debilitating loneliness and a desperate need for closeness.
