No one’s cocky when Dick Long dies

Dick, Zake and Earl are your typical absent-minded, irresponsible, immature rednecks from a town in Alabama. Even though they all have families and are not the youngest people out there, they still want to pursue the life of carefree teenagers – garage band rehearsals, beer drinking, setting off fireworks and shooting cans. Sadly, with great immaturity comes great stupidity. During one of their drunken parties, Dick gets seriously injured. His amazingly irresponsible friends drop him off at the hospital door and disappear. Dick does not survive the night. That is when things really start to get out of control. News spreads quickly across the town, false clues complicate the case, Earl and Zake try their best to minimize their involvement in the incident. But you cannot expect much from two complete idiots.

“The Death of Dick Long” is not a film that provides us with a lot of obscene and dark humour. It is a grim drama, in which the biggest joke is the life of the characters. Instead of perfect one-liners, we hear more idiotic ideas, and the twist is so bizarre, that you do not really know if you should laugh or just collect your jaw from the ground. This sounds like another production from the author of “Swiss Army Man”. In his latest project, Daniel Scheinert mixes a story that destroys family relationships, and includes the meanest jokes told by life, an engaging criminal story and excellent acting. Do you think that you have already seen the most distasteful death? Then prepare yourself for what you are about to see.
