Rock’n’roll and rebellious vampires.
A mother and her two teenager sons move to a small town. The younger of the two befriends local comic books fans who deem themselves to vampire hunters. Meanwhile, the older brother gets into a motorcycle gang, sleeps all days and leads a rock’n’roll life.
Filmed in the city of Santa Cruz (which used to be a serial killers capital of America), “Lost Boys” made by Joel Schumacher are without a doubt a cult classic. That’s because of the very well made mix of genres: on the one hand it’s a vampire flick, on the other a production made for teenagers, of which there were so many in the 80’s. The spirit of that decade is present in the film the whole time. There’s the campiness, loud music, and long hair. As well as beautiful and dark shots made by Michael Chapman – the director of photography for films such as “Taxi Driver”, “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, and “Raging Bull”. This Joel Schumacher cult classic is typical for the decade in which it was made also because it boldly intermingles clichés, the visual allure, and the epic approach. And that’s what we love in the 80’s!
