BLOODY HORROR COMEDY ABOUT A SLOTH POSSESSED BY A MURDEROUS LUST
Google users keep asking: „Is this film real?”. We are happy to provide the answer: yes. Yes, it is. And you can watch it during our festival. The comedy horror “Slotherhouse” has been praised by PETA for its savvy commentary on poaching smuggled in between a relentless onslaught of murderous mayhem.
The eponymous sloth is living his best life deep in the heart of Panama. That is until he is snatched up by a slippery poacher and transported to the United States. He eventually ends up in the tender arms of Emily – a social media-obsessed student who thinks the cute animal might just be her ticket to Instagram stardom and ladies dorm presidency. Little does she know, the seemingly adorable sloth is a bloodthirsty killing machine ready to turn her and her classmates’ lives into living hell.
„Slotherhouse” is one of those films that you shouldn’t take too seriously. At its core, it’s a classic slasher set within the confines of a student dorm. But it also cleverly references other cult classics about fraternities, or, as in this case, sororities. You’ll catch shades of „Mean Girls” a touch of „Black Christmas” and a dash of classic monster movie influence. When our pint-sized killing machine sloth (brought to life by a talented team of animators and puppeteers) goes on a rampage, the dorm walls will run red with blood.
With each subsequent death of his victims becoming more preposterous and shocking than the last, the bloodthirsty sloth will become a fluffy vigilante fueled by his quest to avenge his wronged brothers and sisters.
Matthew Goodhue’s film is one of the most talked-about genre movies of the year, and it’s not just because it’s a sloth wielding the blade. Under the veil of comedy and horror, „Slotherhouse”reveals a poignant message about the ethics of using animals for our entertainment and the dangers of poaching. After witnessing the mayhem in „Slotherhouse” you might second-guess hitting the like button on that social media post with a domesticated, but undeniably wild, animal. No matter how cute it is.
