MADNESS IN THE METHOD

detective story, comedy / USA / 2019 / 1h 39min

# horribly funny / Hollywood / film / parody / Jay and Silent Bob / Polish premiere

Once upon a time in Hollywood

After the success of the movie in which he plays a ridiculous storyteller-erotomaniac, Jason Mewes’ acting career is in crisis. Everyone expects him to take on funny parts and constantly re-enact the character of Jay. They believe that it’s the only part he’s good for. No one takes him seriously, however, his acting aspirations are ambitious. His old friend Kevin Smith tells him about an amazing handbook of method acting, which could change his life. Jason finds the book, which “once read, cannot be unread.” His career gradually takes off, the attitude towards him changes and an opportunity to play in a potentially Oscar worthy film appears. The unfulfilled actor will do anything to take advantage of the opportunity. However, Jay strikes back…but not everything goes according to plan. A series of misunderstandings begins which will result in a high body count.

Jason Mewes’ debut as a director might not be the best when it comes to technical matters, but he makes up for all of his imperfections with a huge amount of positive energy. The ridiculous and absurd story includes true characters, film fiction, bizzare situations, making fun of stereotypes and a whole lot of nods to the works of Mewes and Smith. “Madness in the Method” is an attempt to account for the twists and turns of an acting career, which quite often makes way for a mysterious detective story and a crazy comedy of mistakes. It’s a film in which the actors have fun and we are able to have fun with them. It’s also the only opportunity to see Danny “The Machete” Trejo…in a pink boa.

Mewes’ film is the last in which the legendary comic-book writer Stan Lee plays, before his passing.
