An alternative reality. A new branch of the data transmission industry – quantum communication – is developing rapidly. As usual, under the shadow of technological advance, the use of cheap labor is concealed. This time, however, the situation is slightly different. The clutches of corporate exploitation and the rat race resemble active recreation in the bosom of nature. Seasonal workers drag kilometers of cables through the forest in order to connect mysterious cubic transistors scattered around the area. For each route they receive payment and additional points exchangeable for accessories or food. The conditions seem favorable: work outdoors and on the move, flexible working hours, opportunities to challenge yourself, and a chance to get fit. Just grab the cable and hit the road. When a desperate Ray takes up the job, the sad truth about the industry and various secrets come to light.
“Lapsis” is a gripping and subtle retro science fiction presented from the perspective of the little people working for large enterprises. Noah Hutton, by the use of a somewhat absurd plot, refers to contemporary problems which nowadays, in the society ridden with consumerism and computerization, may escape our notice. The movie brings awareness to corporate exploitation and advancing automation that is increasingly replacing humans.
