The brutal story of Freddy Krueger has achieved cult status like no other slasher series in the history of cinema. The psychopathic murderer who wants blood revenge from the grave got several sequels, and a bout with Jason. With his clawed glove and distinctive striped sweater, he has become one of the most recognizable film characters. However, the beginnings of the series were not murderously precise. Freddy’s first return was released in 1985 and left a painful legacy. In American society it was considered to be the most homoerotic film of its time, and for fans it was considered to be the worst part of the series for years. Although Kruger himself managed to recover from the not-at-all warm reception and returned two years later, for Mark Patton it was the end of his career.
Years later, the actor who played Jesse Walsh, hailed as a male scream queen, introduces the audience to how “Freddy’s Revenge” changed his life. Patton talks about his youth, the beginning of his career, love and the Hollywood of that time. “Scream, Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street” is a documentary about a man destroyed by prejudice and intolerance, but the film itself carries positive energy as well. It shows how times, society and the perception of culture change. Once a hated title, today it has thousands of devoted fans. Patton, on the other hand, has made a demanding and difficult journey from scream queen to the hero of a new generation.
