Love is like a visit in an amusement park. When you finally make up your mind, you never know what it is going to happen. Sometimes you are just having fun to have enough in a while. But when you experience too much joy or not according to the rules, people look weird at you or immediately ask you to leave. This is where Jeanne and Jumbo got to know – at an amusement park. They met by accident. Both have just started a new job. She was shy, afraid of people, and lived life immersed in her own fantasies. Whereas he was catching people’s eyes and cheering the crowd. Unexpectedly, he became a rock for her– he was always on time to brighten her face and chase away the shadows. He rocked her world immediately. But they were never meant to live happily ever after. They had to face the lack of acceptance, pointing fingers and unpleasant jokes. It was not easy. Especially considering that Jumbo is… a roundabout.
Jumbo is a soft, beautiful and touching story about love and feeling equally charming as untypical. Zoé Wittock, in her first feature film, reaches for a brave idea which she exploits entirely. Thanks to the abstract storyline, still incomprehensible matters are presented in a simple way, among them the lack of control over who we love. It is a great lesson on tolerance told effortlessly with warm for our hearts. Even if you don’t need more classes on acceptance, it is worth to see the great play of Noémie Merlant, as well as the hypnotising play of light and colours when Jumbo is showing his feelings!
