Liz is homeless, living life adrift. In a moment of despair and loneliness, she returns home after many years to her God-fearing mother and discovers time has changed more than she ever could have imagined. “Honour Thy Mother” came from my own experience moving to a different country and living away from home for years while earning my doctorate degree. I felt a profound sense of guilt choosing my own betterment at the expense of my relationship with my family. Guilt can be a phantasm that haunts us our whole lives. Liz, the protagonist, left her mother years ago and is going home to revisit her past and their complicated relationship. I wanted to capture her inner struggle as a dark fairy tale to capture the depths of her emotional journey.
