“Goonies” meets “Night of the Living Dead”.
This weekend is looking good for the 14-year old Jason. He’s going to a cabin in the woods with his best friend, slightly arrogant Colin and his permanently unhappy older sister Summer. The father of the siblings and his girlfriend (Roger and Lisa), who are not very responsible, to say the least, are supposed to take care of the kids during their trip. When they arrive in the cheapest possible cabin bookable, the adults try to come up with a way to get rid of the kids and have a night for themselves. Meanwhile, Jason just waits for the right time to sneak out with Colin and his sister. Things take a surprising turn when the kids discover what’s going on in the cabin next to theirs. They see a woman drugging the locals and feeding them to her dead husband and kids.
“Dead Shack” authors took it upon themselves to create a mix of ironic black comedy and horror, and to write a bloody story in which kids don’t only have to defend themselves against frightening creatures but are also made to take care of their guardians. It turned out great – the horror in “Dead Shack” scares the hell out of the audience, but the humour is there to save us. The clever kids have to defend themselves and the adults once again, this time against a horde of zombies and an armed psychopath. It’s a very well balanced film with references to 80’s horrors.
