Playing with dad is always better but never safer
Norval’s father left his family when the boy was only five. Now he sends letters home to his’ son and asks him for an immediate meeting. The grown up Norval decides to go to a cabin in the middle of nowhere to meet his father. He hopes for an explanation, apology and a bit of remorse, however, he gets nothing but a cold-eyed guy, a frosty greeting, insults and humiliation. When the growing tension is finally released during a culminant quarrel, the older man drops dead. Terrified, Norval receives some advice from the coroner – now he can calmly talk to the stiff, and free himself from all of his hatred, thereby closing this chapter of his life, but the young man just doesn’t want to deal with his father anymore. However, the latter feels different – the walls are crackling, something is rattling in the pipes, and muffled voices are heard throughout the house. It seems that indeed someone wants to talk. Norval begins to discover more secrets about his family, which turn out to be more and more surprising, shocking and…strange. And the truth about the things which happened in the cabin is pretty f@8ked up.
“Come to Daddy” – is an intriguing story full of surprising plot twists, which isn’t exactly what it initially seems to be. A family drama, an attempt to settle the past and a difficult childhood unexpectedly turns into a brutal and absurd black comedy. Ant Timpson juggles with a psychological thriller, violence and humor with ease and a gleam in his eye. He offers viewers an unforgettable screening full of fine amusement.
The film was inspired by director’s own experiences. When Ant’s father died, his body was brought home and laid out in an open coffin so that his loved ones could say goodbye. During this time, Ant Timpson met many strangers who shared with him stories about a man who did not resemble the father he thought he knew.
