A retired couple tries to solve their financial problems by participating in a dance competition. What surprising resourcefulness and fortitude! A politician suspected of tax fraud experiences a close encounter with an unhappy citizen. Who wouldn’t like to show the authorities where they can shove their decisions? A young lawyer tries to climb up the career ladder and prove his worth to others. No one said you should be a nice guy in this industry. A teenage girl slowly discovers the world of sexuality, not realizing how ruthless and unfair life can be. Just the banal realities of trivial, day-to-day life. It might seem that these are ordinary lives of ordinary people but do take a closer look… and, just in case, try not to eat anything beforehand! Four disturbing, sad, and shocking stories paint a portrait of three generations living in modern France. They represent four social classes whose fates provide a bold commentary on contemporary society and political corruption. Be prepared because some of the things you’re about to ingest are hard to swallow.
Jean-Christophe Meurisse’s comedy is as dark as the heart of a corrupt politician. The French director takes no prisoners but carries us off on a surprising and ambiguous ride through human hypocrisy and wild nature. However, the razor-sharp satire on French society will not keep entertaining us forever. Dark humor pushes the envelope and slowly turns into a showcase of surprises that will wipe the smile off your face. The director is a provocateur, not only toying with the plot, our expectations, and emotions but also putting our morality to the test. The film’s unexpected plot twists will often provoke perverse amusement just to punish you with stings of remorse.
