Until the last drop of blood

1981. Red Crown Indian Reservation. Whilst fishing a man notices an unusual situation, the fish he just gutted start to move as if they were alive. Shortly afterwards, a dead dog escapes from the back of a police car and a detainee at the local police precinct loses his mind, bites an inmate and attacks the guard. That’s how the zombie apocalypse began. Six months later, the Indian community is still defending itself from the unrelenting zombies. For unknown reasons they are immune to the effects of the virus. The walking dead aren’t their only concern. They face an impossible choice; should they let the non-immune take shelter, thus risking the extinction of humanity or avoid the risk and sentence the innocents to death? They plan to start leaving the camp and searching for a better location, when things get seriously out of hand.

Just when you thought that the zombie topic had been exhausted, Jeff Barnaby involves the postcolonial community of North America. The director mainly focuses on a rather slow pace, a harsh atmosphere and highlights family relationships and tensions. The gloomy aura is easily lightened by various spectacular ways of exterminating the zombies. The very title of the film tells the story in a different light. The term “blood quantum” refers to an Indian blood law which was used during the colonial times, so as to determine identity and ease the segregation of Indian Americans.
